Okay, sorry.

I'm so so so so so so so so sorry there's been nothing in forever.

We've had so much on.
I think when we last spoke the monster box was up. Well since then, not much has happened, there was a whole lot of snow, so we were off school for almost two weeks, and then we had a Business project to do, so this has been on the back burner for a while.

And what with Christmas being next week, little will happen between now and then.

But I promise you, come the new year, we'll get this back up and running.

Love you all.

GUESS WHAT Bloggosphere!!!!

Big news for y'all today. I do I do I do.

The MONSTER BOX is built!!! It's really a lovely box.

It's 44ft 10in long. And bang on (Mr Gleesons phrase, not mine) four foot wide....

So, that means, Charlotte, as she seems the one who will be most able to talk on a phone, I get all tongue tied and confused, (actually that always happens to me, you should see me in a class answering a question) when I'm on the phone. So, we're going to ring and order the soil(I had been calling it "dirt" but that's not going down so well with Team Learder Charlotte *salutes for no apparent reason*) in a couple of days. And then next Wednesday, me, and the team. And Mr Gleeson I imagine, maybe. Are going to fill the box.

Old clothes and spades for all.

(God I'm gonna look silly Wednesday moring on the bus to school.)

I cant wait.

More pressingly though. So, the box got built today, so we obvsiously had to have something of a photo shoot. Mr Gleeson brought us all, (Charlotte, Alex, Nicole, Lisa and Tara, Erica, Malwina, and Andrea? I think thats us. Sorry if I forgot you ><) down to the box, and of course, what'd be the first thing I have to do?

Step into the box, and pretend to be a carrot. ^^,

I'm insane, there's sllim to nil anybody can do about that. And I really hope nobody every does try.

So we got some pictures taken, all of us standing in the box (not pretending to be plants) taken by Mr Gleeson and then it was back upstairs, for class and stuff.

I hear you ask:

What comes next?

Well, most immideatly will be the filling the Monster Box. Then we'll decorate it (tastefully) and start to focus on our awareness campaign since we cant start planting just yet.

Anyway dears, that's me done for now. Talk soon,

-Katie

Getting wood, and dirt.....? Well whatever floats your boat kids.

Well, I have big news for y'all. We're getting wood to build the boxes TOMORROW (16.11.2010) and the soil, I prefer to call it dirt though.... on Friday. Which means, that by next week, we will have the MONSTER BOX, built!!!!

YAY!

Two months of hard, well, kinda, work is coming into...what we wanted it to. Obviously we cant start planting till after Christmas. But to get the boxes up and built, man, it's a worry off my mind.

Anyway, that's all our news till Wednesday, talk then.

Interview with Mr.Coyle, a great gardener :)

Q1 Why did you start growing your own food?

A. I have always been interested in gardening and growing but I've only had the opportunity to pursue it in the last few years. My grandad (the other one!) was a great man for gardening I learnt a lot from him. It's very easy to take vegetables and food generally for granted when you can buy them cheaply and nicely packaged of a supermarket shelf but growing your own food gives you an appreciation for the work, time and skill involved. Since man first began to settle down and live in one place thousands of years ago he has had to grow his food, it's very important to have an understanding of how to grow your own food.

Q2 For how long do you have this garden?

A. I've been keeping my garen for 3 years now. It's small scale and experimental. I've been trying out different things and keeping an eye out for what works and what doesn't. Some of my beds are in straight lines, some are circular  some are wavy. straight lines are the most practical but not as much fun!

Q3 What kind of vegetables do you have in your garden?

A.  I have all sorts but among the more interesting things I have is the Cherokee Trail of Tears Bean. The Cherokees were a Native American tribe who were able to bring with them. It's pretty amazing to have that link with them. I also grew some Lumper potatoes this year which were the main variety of potato grown in Ireland during the time of the famine.

Q4 What is the best about gardening?

A. I think the best thing about gardening is being out in nature and the elements. Its also fascinating to read about the many different approaches and philosophies with regard to gardening. My hero is a little Japanese man called Masombu Fukuoka he said "The ultimate good of farming is not growing of crops but the cultivation and perfection of human beings".

Q5 Do you have any tips that you could share with us?

A. Try out different things and keep records so that you will know what marks and what doesn't.

Q6 Can you suggest what kind of vegetables are suitable for these conditions (weather and soil)

A. Irish Seed Savers Association have a wide range of varietis that are very suitable for the Irish climate. They also do great work in preserving heirloom ( no longer commercialy avaible) vegetable varities and give fascinating histories for each in their catalogue.

MR.COYLE, in the name of all the group I would like to thank you for helping us with our garden.

Hey World.

Ohaii, gosh it's been a while. Well, welcome to the new month, even though it's 8 days old at this stage.

I am quite sorry for the lack of updates, news and the likes. I could make excuses, but you dont want to hear them. I think today's update will be a short one. We had a meeting today, (Monday) because the one we were meant to have on Friday just didnt happen. It was our first meeting in a while where we didnt just talk about dreams.

So, what did we do. Well, we decided on a list of tasks that need to be done, (Charlotte will probably post them alittle later, or tomorrow.) the things that really need doing yanno. Procurment of lumber, and sponsors, you know. That sorta thing.

We also got our Art Teacher/Gardening Guru to answer some questions, about gardening, why he does it, that sort of thing. If possible, we might get them up here for y'all. They're really good answers, the man's like a....genius.

I apologise if this seem's rather short. At the moment I really cant think. I'm pretty sure I've got you updated on the important things. So with that, I shall bid you all good day.

GREEN DAY !!!

Green day was a big success. We raised about 200 eu and we all had a great day :)

Wednesday, October 20, 2010

Another day of hard work. :) Well done girls

Ohaii Blogosphere

I know there's probably a better way of putting these things. But that's what I'm sticking with. So anyway.

Today we did some awesome cool stuff. We've raised like, €75, jsut by selling bracelets alone. And Green Day is on Friday. And we figure we might get about €250 -€300, cause I just know not everybody will bring in the money, they never do. And then we have to split half the money with the Waste Group. But whatever. I dont care.

So our "meeting" today, well it only kinda happened. There were no actual meetings. We jsut hung up posters and shizz. Which brings me to the main topic of discussion, which is, what we actually did today.

We, had art, as we always do on a Wednesday afternoon. And as we're in the midst of these awesome projects, Mr Coyle, (art teacher, he has a beard and is an expert on gardening, also Hi!)

So he let us make posters. And we did. Two HUGE ones, they're like, four sheets, that are double A4 size. So like, A4 x 2 x 4? Quite large in other words. One of them says, GREEN DAY and the other says, Lets make our School Green. Yes, I know, so inventive. But we are. And then the Green Day one has a pretty picture, with flowers and grass and such. And the other one has lotsa words. Telling everybody what we hope to do in the foocher.

Anyway, I think that's about all I have to say at the moment. Someone else will be updating on Friday, as I'm off to Naas for the weekend. But, I'll talk to y'all soon, and bye I guess.

Dis be us....

Okay, from Left to Right,

Front Row:
Mirna
Katie (Me)
Erica
Charlotte

Front Row:
Alex
Lisa
Nicole
Tara.

So now you all know who's who. :)

Hello again to all our friends.

Well, it's been a while. Sorry about that, but I was away at the weekend. As you can see, we have a big picture of all of us at the top of the page. (I'm the ginger one.)

Anyway, down to business.

There's not much to be said. We've not had a meeting yet this week. But I suppose there are a couple things to report. We're selling friendship bracelets in the school. One for €1.50, but you can get two for €2.00. Reasonable enough when one considers how much effort goes into making them. They come in various lenghts, colors, and theres a few different ways they can be constructed. Theres pictures below. In their lovely box. (Note to Self: Has Mr Gleeson bought one? >_> Find out...)

And then the other news is. We're having Green Day on Friday. No not the band, (unfortunatly). It's basically a no-uniform day. But you have to wear at least one green item of clothing. Like, a green top. Of you can wear like, a green bracelet, or hairband. Or even green glasses (I'm covered there.).

So, I think that's really all the news I have for you today. I imagine there will be more news on Wednesday, once we've had our first meeting of the week.

Ah yes, one last thing. Anybody want to sponsor us? We'd really love it, actually, we really need it also. But lets not say anything about that.

So, with that I bid you all,
Goodday.

-Katie
P.S. Shuddup and lemme see your jazz hands. :L
And sorry about the Barney bit at the top.

Make sure you get someone with a beard........

Hello all in the world of blogging,

Katie here. Just updating you on all that is happening in the world, of well, whatever world it is in which we live.

We had a meeting, of sorts, today. Mr Gleeson, got our class into our two groups. And then, we discussed things. But, that's skipping ahead. Other things happened today. For starters, Alex, she brought in this little tub, in which people may deposit money. Yanno, donations and the likes. She also colored in the first poster, it looks amazing. And has all our little contact details on it. Which, you may find, a little lower down the page. And, Mr Gleeson, he's getting them printed out, in all theri colorful glory.

So anyway, moving on to our "meeting", well, it wasnt much. We didnt decide on much that we didint know already. Although, apperently we've, and when I say we, I mean, not me.( I've noticed I really dont do as much as others. Or, maybe I'm just belittleing what I do for the group.) Regardless, we've gotton a hold of some free seeds, for planting. I would say thankyou to the place that supplied them. But I'm not sure of the shop's name. But you can probably find that out from one of the others.

Now, at the meeting, I keep straying off this, but this time I'm determined to keep to the plot.

At the meeting:

We made a lovely list of what our Aims and Objectives are, it took us a bit to figure out what an objective is exactly. But we managed in the end. We also figured out exactly what days we will be meeting on, and from when to when, we have two seperate meeting days, because some people can't make it Friday, and others cant make it Wednesday.

So our new meeting times are as follows:

Wednesday:     3:35 - 4:35 (or there abouts)
 Friday:            1:00 - 2:00 (or there abouts)

We also, had Mr Gleeson giving us advice, though, I cant remember half of it at this stage. I do remember him however telling us two things, the first, we need to get advice about doing this, and we should definatly get advice from somebody with a beard. I'm not sure his reasoning behind that....but whatever floats yer boat sir. The other thing he said, was that he's gonna be taking a look on here today. So I was like.

O.o would be an appropriate way to describe how I was feeling on the inside..... But honestly, I dont think there's anything that bad on here. So, did anything else happen today at the "meeting", I dont really think so, anf I've just noticed how long this is.

So without saying much more.
See yis.
-Katie.

So, who are we, and why are we here?

Well, that's fairly easily explained.

Who are we?

"We" are a group of students, all in Transition (4th) Year, at St. Josephs Secondary School, Stanhope Street. in Dublin, Ireland. That's putting it simply. To go into detail, there's about 11 of us, there's:
Charlotte, Nicole and Alexandra- our team leaders.
Then you got the rest of us.
Tara and Lisa - they're twins.
Erica
Mirna
Maria
Marlena
Malwina
and, you have me (Katie)
There's also our Year Head, Mr Gleeson, but he's not really gonna be helping out much.

Why are we here?

We are here, well, simply because, we want to raise awareness. About the lack of green space in, and around Dublin, specifically our school. And we want to teach people about growing their own Vegetables, and how easy it is. We want to teach them about how much food people waste, and how more and more of our food is being imported from other countries when it could easily be grown right here in our own back yards.

Das all for now. Expect more soon.
- Katie.
